Hey all

At work we are on an ADSL 8mb (some random ISP) connection, which I presume on the exchange is shared with the other offices where we are based (converted farm land / buildings). Also we are right out in the sticks, in this farm off a one road village.

Anyways I suspect that 8mb is being shared between the whole village too, as I can rarely get above 100kbs, and editing files over ftp (Zend live ftp editing for the win :p) is a nightmare.

Oh yeah, should say I am a web dev, so the net is pretty important ;)

Right, so I am going to goto my boss and suggest we get a business line, as my web team is expanding, and the problem is only going to get worse. The problem is I know nothing of business connections, and google only comes up with business adsl packages, I thought I would come and ask my friendly local OCUK forum :p

Doesnt really need to be massively fast, I have 20mb at home which will be more than enough for what we are after. Just want it stable, availability in rural areas, and with an upload that doesnt suck.

Also no real idea on prices. As I say this is for work, so the boss would probably be willing to splash out a little, but nothing too crazy lol. He is a Mac user / Designer so doesnt appreciate the finer points of having a fat pipe :D

Try un-contended business ADSL if your budget is tight (1:1 contention).

You really want a leased line but these cost an arm + leg for even a 2MB. Still, that'll be 2 up / 2 down. Shop around for pricing. Viatel / NTL / BT etc If you're out in the sticks expect to pay installation charges in the 3k region plus easy 6k+ per year.

We just got a 10Meg line at work for 15k per year from NTL.

You are looking at 10's of thousands for installation of a leased line and thousands a month. If your budget meets this than get a few quotes. Here is one to try: http://www.enta.net/index.php?id=246

Not necessarily unless you are talking huge pipes.

I've recently gone out to quote for MPLS for 9 UK sites and average installation costs are around 2-4k and 800-1000 a month for a 2meg circuit.

And as I mentioned, the 10Mb line (100Mb bearer) I am currently having installed from NTL was £15,300 per year - no installation cost.

I would also recommend have a look at what Enta can offer you as I know a couple few of the people there and they are good and plan their network well so it in fast once you are on it.
