Business router for home office.

Hi,

I am considering a new ISP for my home and currently also have a home office which may in future provide various on-line services.

The connection is FTTD with 19MB/s down and 10MB/s up (roughly).

The provider suggests a Cisco RV220W and I am just interested to see if there are any other contenders out there I should consider around the same price range (used EBay items included).

My equipment is in a 42U rack so rack mount is a good option but non-rack mount is also ok. Wifi is not needed but is also not a 'must not have'.

Cisco or HP would be prefered.

Any suggestions ?.

Almost anything will cope with those up/down speeds.

Although you're probably more likely to want a firewall appliance rather than "just" a router.

I'd probably shove in something like the cheapest ASA you can get (5505 will be enough, 5510 will cost more but rack-mountable). Or, if you really aren't bothered about used kit, get a Pix 515E (I've got a 515E, upgraded with more RAM and a faster CPU - Socket 370 Pentium 3 baby!).

Then add a decent Cisco Wireless Access Point (depending on if you need "n" or not they can be picked up for pennies these days) and you're sorted.

I've got a couple of Draytek 2850's on fibre connections. Reliable and lots of features such as VPN, filtering, bandwifth monitoring, 3G Backup etc.

There is always one

. Yep could go that way but would rather not put it on my server. Would rather explore standalone appliances.

Interesting. Will take a look although the 515E will clip my top download bandwidth, if I ever had the chance to reach it. The Asa range are quite a bit more expensive and the local distributor is only listing the isa and sa ranges. I will bounce them a mail

These are on fibre links used for business or just home use ?.

Will take a look tonight.

One other thing, the fibre ONT just converts the optical to electrical doesn't it. I still need an adsl modem to make the actual network connection to my ISP ?.
