Hi all,
I was playing Risen the other day, when my comp crashed. Rebooted and when Windows desktop should start showing, black screen, monitor loses signal and a red led lights up in the back of the card. Safe mode does the same.
After fiddling around a bit I order a new card and put the 4850 on a shelf waiting for RMA. Almost two weeks after, I pick the card up again just to make sure it's broken. No more red light, monitor doesn't lose signal, just hangup before Windows desktop.
Surprisingly, safe mode boots up. I uninstall gfx drivers and reboot. Now it boots perfectly into Windows! I install newest Ati drivers instead of W7 defaults and reboot. No dice, hangup. Safe mode & driver uninstall & reboot.
I switch to classic theme and disable all the bells and whistles in windows appearance, suspecting 3D effects as the culprit. Install drivers, boot, hangup.
Any ideas what could be the problem? What if I send the card to RMA and they test it on non-3D-desktop-XP and it works?
