Busted Screen, Output to LCD TV via VGA?

Hi Lads i have a mate that has had a accident with his laptop and busted the screen.
very little of screen works + the case has a few serious large dents in,
now i have suggested getting a vga cable so i could output to a LCD screen via VGA to see if if boots up correctly and possible fix?
the laptop in question is an Alienware Area 51 not sure of the spec until i get hold of it tommorrow (Tues)
if it does boot maybe i could get hold of another screen and case maybe of the Bay?

yeah you should be able to see it via another monitor.
If it is just the screen then chances are the rest of the hardware will be ok.
Replacing the screen is fairly straight forward and you could probably attempt it yourself

I'm quite happy to fix myself, but i will have to wait and see if it does boot successfully

will try tommorrow and post back with my findings
