Took me a long time to get around to watching this and I must say I quite liked it but in a 'I NEVER want to watch that again' type way. I thought it was well executed and kept the attention, I had a pretty good idea of what was going on from the first 'jump', its a premise which has been used so many times in stuff like Star Trek, Bedazzled ect.

However the end still caught me out and that worked really well for me, despite being a bit horrified to say the least, must have taken some balls to script it that way.

Two things I don't get

a) Why didn't the father eventually get forced into the same path

b) The necklace, the lead character wears the same necklace all the way through, its quite prominent and I though maybe it had some significance?

People who enjoyed it might also like Mysterious Skin which has a similar feel to it, but is also not for the easily disturbed and does have some petty graphic references to homosexuality, but if you can get over that its a great movie.

i really enjoyed it as well. for me it was in the same vein as Eternal Sunshine. i think it was a really good role for Ashton Koosher (sic) as it showed (me anyway) that he can be serious, and actually a pretty damn good actor when he wants to be! plus that big scary goth guy is my hero :)

i'll check out your recommendation too :)

i really enjoyed the film. however, having seen it previously with a different ending than the DVD release, i didnt find the ending on the DVD as good (killing himself in the womb) as the ending where he went back to a party to tell Kayleigh that he hated her. Maybe im just a sap who loves happyer endings though!

But as Sic said, it showed Kutcher in a different light as an actor, thought he was supherb

This is the only film that I've given a 7/7 rating on my DVD rentals (why it's out of seven I don't know). Been a while since I saw it so I can't really answer the questions, but I couldn't stand Ashton Kutcher before I watched this and after watching it it didn't feel like it was him, if you know what I mean; it was like watching an unknown actor in a first time role.

As for Mysterious Skin, I hated it. Not because of the content, it just bored me to tears.

Shame dat :(

I liked it a lot, and again it changed my feelings about a particular actor in this case Joseph Gordon-Levitt who was very good in it.

Now appearing as Jason Lee's brother in My Name Is Earl... minus half his body weight!

Excellent film in my opinion. I knew nothing about it and was pleasantly suprised. I love sad endings!

Big Fat Scary Goth guy as you guys have named him is also excellent in American History X which is one hell of a messed up film.

Whats the alternative endings??

Saw the one at the cinema but for the life of me cant remember it!
Now just watched the one 'womb ending' i guess you can call it

Can someone explain the other endings for me as will never own the dvd lol

ye really good film but one you cant really watch more than once every few years imo, there are a few endings one where he goes back to the party and tells kayleigh he hates her, the one where he kills himself in the womb, and there is another ending but i forget what happens in that one. both of the first two endings werent too bad in my opinion, and it was a good way to do it that way.

unfortunately they are making a butterfly effect 2

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0457297/

hope its not crap but i bet it will be, got lois from smallville in though which might save it.

Not really the sort of film i'd imagine to have a sequel, i'm placing my bets on it being terrible.
