I know playing the waiting game is never recommended but I'm curious if I would have buyers remorse if the rumoured 8 core Intel chip came out soon'ish.

Would agree with the others, 8700k is a superb CPU and while all 6 cores do get used in some games, its not maxed out with headroom left in those few titles which can make use of more then 4 cores. Pair with some nice RAM and its plenty quick. Delid the sucker though, will see significant headroom in terms of overclocking capability. Run mine now at 5.2 GHz and does flawlessly in my gaming rig.

With that said, not sure what monitor your using and if its a higher refresh rate one or not, but I would just stick with the Ryzen rig in your sig until something new comes out as your not gonna see much of a difference if its 60hz your pushing.

I have an Acer X34P 120Hz G-Sync monitor, I have noticed in several games even at this res I quite often get less than 90% GPU utilisation which AFAIK points to the CPU, Hence wanting to switch to the i7 :)

To add an alternative option (If your open to other options)

Do neither, get a 2700X and a platform you can upgrade with in the future. Rather than having to buy new socket for Intel chip each time.

That review seems a tad odd considering it goes against the numbers of many other reviews.

Cinebench score being 1 that looks fishy, Single threaded scores of the 8700K that I've seen pre and post security patches are only within 1-2 points after the patch, Not 30 points lower, Unless they are downclocking the 8700K to the same speed as the 2700X ?

Yup, considering in their own 8700k review it scored 204 with 3200 MHz kit of Ram in single threaded Cinebench test: https://www.techradar.com/reviews/intel-core-i7-8700k Broadly similar to what I see at stock on mine and compares with other reviewers landing in 200 sort of range at stock: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/intel_core_i7_8700k_processor_review,7.html

Yeah their scores a tad odd, I asked a workmate to test the single thread in cinebench on his 8700K with the spectre and meltdown patches and he got over 200 so no clue what TechRadar are doing to lower it by so much.

Glad to hear it, was going to have your 1800x and CH6 on the MM but was to late! :( If I see another decent deal on a Ryzen platform I'll bite otherwise I guess waiting it out now coffee lake has been out for over 6 months is the best bet. How much volts you running for 5ghz and are you delidded?

Got a good clocker and managed to get 5GHz stable at 1.29v, Not delidded though, I have a 360 rad cooling it and it's doing a decent job so far :)

You are not helping me not splurge on one :( Though I do only have a 240mm rad and I have no idea how much difference that would make :p

(That said, 4.7 on all cores would be a 27% upgrade so... Look, I screwed up and bought Ryzen a month before covfefe ok? :( )

Enjoy what you have now, You can always wait for Zen 2 next year and drop that in your mobo, Nice big upgrade that way :)

Well here it be, 5GHz game and bench stable at 1.29v on an Asus ROG Maximus X Formula :)
