my build is based around this at the moment but i dont want it to go out of stock for them never to come back when it comes to buying it in june/july. should i buy one now for later? everything else seems like it will be around for a while but my budget will never allow for getting the 930 unless that drastically comes down in price similar to what the 920 is doing.

By the time they stop selling the 920s the 930s will have come down a fair bit I think, 920s are basically filling the 'value for money' i7 slot to try and convince people not to buy AMD 6 core chips imo...

I would buy the i7 920 now. The 930 is supposed to come down in price when 920 stock runs out - but it will only be to the 920's old price point ie £200-220. The £168 the i7 920 OEM is at is very much a temporary thing to clear stock.

they are all same 920 d0 are best u can overcklock them without problem on 4.ghz

mine for exmple are oc to 4.2 stable it depends on chip some 930 may oc poorly

+1

Also at around £160-170 that’s a lot of processor for the money. I very much doubt that they will drop much more.

For that money the i7 920 is looking a very good idea in the context of lasting a number of future graphics card upgrades. I'm seriously considering it now myself...

Without question I would buy the i7 920 D0 now. Stock is running out quickly and I can not find anymore available especially at this price point.

That's not great news, still waiting for the cash for my new build and for the money the i7 920 is looking a great buy and should last a few GPU upgrades.

Thinking of getting one today for my bulid at the end of july but dont knw becayse i want to go high end watercooling and by then could the 980x be about 500-600 £ ? OEM

To be fair the 930 isn't that much better other then the multiplier is one x higher but lets face it you won't see the differance between the 2 CPUs but you'll see the £60 differance spent on otherparts of the system like custom watercooling or down the pub... or my Fav a new pair of Shoes ;).

You would not need a 980X there here before there time to be fair i do a lot of Compiles maybe 2-3 a week of 3-4 GB of data and even i don't need it just a thought, Time 6 cores are useful you'll see 8Core CPUs @ £300 called i9.
