I've got a 40GB PS3 which is out of warranty and has no reciept from purchase. The blu ray drive is dead (very disappointing as rarely used) so while everything else works i can't play any games that aren't downloaded.

Is it worth repairing it? I found a place online that sells refurbed drives with a 3 month warranty for £65 but as i can get a new 160GB Slim for £200 with a 1 year warranty plus reciept I'm not sure whether to get it and sell the old one on the bay or even repair and sell then get new one if that works out better?

Don't get me wrong, the aestethics mean nothing to me. i'm looking at it for the fact that it is new so likely have longer with it before it fails plus the warranty and receipt. i suppose the bigger hard drive is a bonus but i dont have a load of games to really max it out.

Yeah I've read up on the Sale of Goods Act where you can get something sorted if there's a reasonable expectation of it not going wrong within 6 years. That's why i mention getting proof of purchase so i could actually use that law although the 1 year warranty still makes it less hassle then doing that way
