Hey,

I'm sure you've all heard about the rumours of a MB and MBP upgrade at the conference in June. No one knows if these rumours are true and when the upgrades would occur but it's probably around July.

Rumours include:

  • Better processor speeds to match the recent iMac speed increases and intel processor updates
  • Bigger touch pad
  • Possible slight price drop
  • Possible redesign, more likely on the MBs though. I don't see how they could really change much of the MBP current design.
Do you think I'm best waiting until the conference in June before buying? If they don't announce anything then I could buy straight away, otherwise I would wait. I understand you can never keep up to technology but I'm willing to wait until the end of August at the latest. Most of me wants to run out any buy one tomorrow though :p

I was thinking of getting the 7200rpm HDD but it means I need to order online and there's a two week wait for it to be made and dispatched. Is it really worth the wait?

Thanks

I am in the same boat however I have decided to wait until June as I would rather have a blu-ray drive in the MBP if possible and hoping they will get one in the upgrade. Spec wise all I would add is the hi-res screen and the 7200 drive, then drop in my own 4gig. It would be nice if they bumped the standard processor up to the 2.6ghz model however.

If you want the 7200 drive the apple store in Glasgow had these in stock with or without the high res screen as they said it is a very popular upgrade. The guy in the store was hinting that a blu-ray drive will be available soon.

How were they hinting dave? The Trafford centre staff don't think there will be an update soon. Personally don't see the point in a bluray drive in them. Would be nice if I can get the 7200 rpm HDD though. I'll ring around tomorrow

Thanks for the help guys. I think I'll pick one up today or Wednesday evening once my exams finish.
As for Bluray, its not a quick swop because the need to include a DVD burner with the bluray reader.

I bought one! Sitting here in front of my lovely MacBook Pro. Takes some getting used to after using a Windows operating system all my life (trying out Ubuntu didn't really seem like a jump).

Installed some of my favourite programs as well as programs I've always wanted to try. The one problem I have having is the must-look-after-new-toy problem. I only touch the keys atm so sometimes I miss a letter or two out. Won't be long until I get used to it though.
