Hi,

I was just wondering whether there was any sense in buying a Dell Studio 15 now, with a T5750 processor, and planning to replace this in ~18 months with a faster Socket P processor.

At present, the T8100 is ~£60 more on the outlet, which doesn't seem like great value.

In contrast, in 18 months, £60 ought to go quite a long way on this generation of Socket P processors. Is there any chance of FSB speeds matching?

Hope this makes some sense!

i wouldn't bother it, i believe all your gaining is the 800FSB/3MB cache and 100 mhz plus maybe a little extra 5-10 mins on battery life as the T8100 is more efficient. Your right its not worth it.. the next generation i think of mobile intel processors are moving platform i do believe, so this penryn/montivena (i cant spell it) platform currently will end probably i dunno say in 5 months?

It seems really hard to compare processors in laptops. For example, benchmarks put the T5750 as faster than the T7300.

Given that i understand the T5750 to be a T7250 is less cache, i fail to see how these things are possible!
