As part of ensuring the Puma is well looked after, im looking at changing the oil at a more sensible interval than ford recommend, I was thinking about every 4-5k or something...

Now, when ive been looking for oil, it seems 5w30 is what the puma needs, but I read this on the pumabuild site...

"Engine oil 5w/30 formula E for the Puma engine using other oils may damage the engine cylinder bores (ni-cascil)"

does this mean I cant use things like Castrol Magnatec/Mobil 1 etc?

ok...

without wanting to sounds like a total noob.....

Im wanting to do a few performance enhancing mods on the car, so there are a few things ill be changing for slightly better items (k&n replacement panel filter, better plugs, and oil was another thing I was going to 'upgrade' but basically, if im doing these more frequent changes, i dont need to worry too much?

cost imo isnt a massive issue... within reason of course... as for upgrading the oil blueboy, id be keeping the shorter intervals also...

maybe its overkill, but I intend to look after this engine as best as I can if my 'plan' is to happen...

I know the Puma isn't exactly a Mondeo, but all the folks over on fordmondeo.org.uk say that the 5w30 stuff from ford themselves is pretty good and a damn good price too.

fair enough...

its just.. to get the most from this car, the rev's rarely drop below 4.5k when im going for it.. I dont want something as cheap as oil to be the reason the engine grenades all over the road

hate working out what oil to use. but even cocking up wont kill your engine although its not a good move! I use standard oil that meets the W rating (15w-40 i think on the 306 or was it 20w 50, or is that the gearbox, no thats 50W - 80 i think....see!!)

Oil is pretty much oil, as said you can overkill quite easy, only go all out if your track-ing it.

It will be seeing track action, but most of it would probably considered 'fast road'
