Hey guys, i might be buying a 480 GTX but people say it might bottleneck my cpu its an i3 530 @ 4.6 4gb DDR3 and a h55m-ud2h Board.

What do you guys recon, i do have a 460GTX atm but it laggs on crysis 2 at 1920*1080 23"

Thanks

your gtx460 lags on crysis 2? what fps do you get on average?
To be honest with you, a key difference between the 460 and 480 is vram. the 480 has got more. but other than that, there isnt really nothing majorly over powering by it.

Perhaps SLI your excisting gtx460? or save your dolla and save up for something a little more *meaner*

just my two cents.

Thanks Gamerdude, fps on standstill when not doing anything hits around 23 but when im in battle and things are going evrywhere it can drop to 10

My board doesnt support sli :(

What card do you recon as i might buy a bigger board and a sandy bridge

Crysis 2 lags that badly? Seems very odd.

Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz and an older GTS 250 1GB would get me better than that. Have you updated to the DX11 textures and are using tessellation or something (Which would make it perform very badly).

Perhaps it's because it's a dual core, but still.. with 4 threads and your overclock it should be running very well?

well ive just upgraded from gtx460 SLI to radeon 6850 CF, and just lookin at benchmarks, slight bit of a difference, the 6850 being slightly better
If you would like the crysis benchmark differences, i can show you

You should see HAWX benchmarks aswell, and a couple of other games, like BF-bad company 2, i forget exactly what now, but the 6850 completely destroys the gtx460

nahhh, You can set it so it automatically uses system memory too, So no issue there. Just aslong as you got plenty of system ram. your all good.

Huh  I think you're getting a bit confused, there would be an issue using system memory for video memory, for starters your video cards memory is considerably faster than your system memory! Have a look at some of the recent posts concerning lack of VRAM in the latest games, specifically stuff like BF3, Crysis 2, GTA 4, Metro etc.

still not learned too much have we...

a gtx 480 would be bottlenecked by your cpu, a 480 would not bottleneck your cpu. It would still work but the fact is, you are trying to play one of the most demanding games of the year at a high resolution on a low/midrange system.

the reason your 460 doesnt work well with crysis2 at 1080p is because you are trying to play crysis2 at 1080p on a 460.

its not lag, its low FPS.

to play high end games at a large resolution, you need a bit more than a low end dual core cpu.

No way, 6850 1GB is only on par with GTX460 1GB. You should never read from a single source...if you actually check out various different reviewers, they confirmed their performance with both cards winning some, losing some depending on the game title. I recall that the 6850 1GB is FASTER than the GTX460 1GB on some titles if NO or low level of AA is applied, but for 4xAA or above the GTX460 1GB runs ahead.

Either way, 6850 1GB certainly doesn't "destroy" GTX460 1GB as you say. Best case scenerio the 6850 is just a bit faster than the GTX460 in SOME games, and 5850 is faster than both cards by nearly 10%.

I think you should upgrade your cpu first, like I'm doing :p (going from a non-overclocked i3 540, my board is very annoying for overclocking so I run my cpu at stock, and a nicely overclocked 460 :)) to sandybridge, or bd if it's on par/better than sb, and keeping your 460 and running at lower settings until you the next gen of cards
