Just had to rip my hallway/stairs/landing carpet up due to water damage, had a friends husband thats a carpet fitter come measure the area for me so i know what to order, theres a couple of small shops in town im going to have a look at tomorrow but ive just had a quick look online at some nice carpets for around £5 per square metre (i need 7.3x4m for the whole area).
Anyone had experiance with buying carpets online? any tips?

Unless your hall or landing is 7.3m long, you won't need that much I wouldn't have thought (I was a floor planner and I don't remember ever seeing those sort of lengths for those rooms).
Stairs (riser and tread) are generally 90cm wide at the most and 45cm long. You can take these from whats left after the hall and landing. The only thing that can affect the size a lot are pattern repeats (usually stripes). The landing will have the riser as part of it for the top step.

Are your stairs straight or are there winders or a half landing?

Get details from the online shops such as manufacturer, whether its foam or secondary backing and watch for them rounding sizes up (you need 7.3m but they increase it to 8m and charge you for it). Do they then add VAT and delivery?

Its quite a big area but im not sure of exacts, i do trust the carpet fitter hes fitted mine and my families carpets for years and hes done it for 30 years himself.
When i mentioned to him about ordering online he just said be careful it might look good but end up being really thin, and with it being a hallway etc and me having two young kids itll get messed up quick
