Can you guys point out if I've made any errors or if any of the items I've chosen are incompatible - along with any other recommendations. Thanks :) My budget is roughly £1000, and my current choices take me to 1017, which is doable.

Here's the beef:

CPU:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+
£170

Motherboard:
Asus A8N32-SLi Deluxe nForce4 SLi X16
£140

Memory:
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC5300 667MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
£165

Graphics:
HIS ATI Radeon X1950 XT-X ICEQ 3 SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR4
£300

HDD:
Western Digital Raptor 74GB WD740ADFD 10,000RPM SATA 16MB Cache
£110

DVD:
Samsung SH-D162 DVD-ROM
£15

Case:
Akasa AK-ZEN-01-BK Zen Black Case
£32

PSU:
OCZ GameXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply
£85

All from OcUK of course :) That's everything needed for a new system isn't it? I already have monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.

Even if you wanted that system, it's the incorrect memory. You really could do with another HD, 74GB isn't enough. Buy another drive 7200rpm, 320GB should do. Use the Raptor for OS and music, 320GB for games.

I would have gone for this.. (sorry if i'v missed anything , made mistakes etc)

And change the case to what you like etc :p

I wouldn't buy those, unless you can be guaranteed it's the quiet version. So go to the shop, and inspect the motor before accepting it. I doubt you'll get a refund after receiving it, it's not classed as faulty. I would swop that Sony for Pioneer writer also.

Why not that memory?

I think CarlD's spec is very good - but I'd get a Tagan or Seasonic PSU instead of the Hiper. Do you need an OS?

Thanks for pointing out the DDR2 thing :o I'll replace that with DDR1 memory.

Is Intel Duo Core really that much of an advantage over the AMD equivelent?

Very much so :) In terms of windows etc its probably not that much of a difference, but in games/video editing it spanks the AMD :)

in windows it spanks the amd! i went from a 3700 clocked to 3ghz to the cpu you see in my sig (core 2 duo) and the difference in windows is amazing let alone gaming!

If I am correct you have chosen ddr2 memory/ram for a ddr motherboard/setup.

Otherwise like the other guy says get a conroe

Ok I revised some parts, here it is now, at £862 inc vat:

CPU:
Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz
£120

Motherboard:
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2
£106

Memory:
GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC5300 667MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
£94

Graphics:
HIS ATI Radeon X1950 XT-X ICEQ 3 SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR4
£300

HDD:
Western Digital Raptor 74GB WD740ADFD 10,000RPM SATA 16MB Cache

£15

£32

OCZ GameXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply
£85

All good? I don't really want to touch the 900 pound barrier, let alone 1000

Considered getting a single 320GB for now? Or two 250GB's?
Pioneer drives are better than Samsungs imo.

I would get X1900XT instead. You're plumping a lot of money into GFX but not into storage.
