Buying a DS from the US

If you buy one of the new DSs from the US, will the UK games play on it ok?

They certainly shall, it's all region free.

That's cool! What about compatibility between different DS handhelds for multiplayer? It seems they mioght not work from what I'm reading.

you can play wirelessly over the net with other people. ad hoc is no different

I think I remember reading there's problems playing against each other if the games themselves are from different regions (e.g. someone with UK Mario Kart vs US Mario Kart).. but hardware wise there won't be any problems
