Buying a good DVI cable

I got a new Samsung B2430H and it came with only a VGA cable, I mean it's ridiculous that in almost 2011 you get such an old piece of hardware with a new monitor! My graphics card is a couple of years old and it has only DVI outputs, not a sign of VGA...

Is picture really visibly any better on DVI than on VGA?

The prices for DVI cables vary and so I wanna know, if there is any difference in picture quality betwen them?

There is absolutely no visible difference in quality between VGA and DVI on the Samsung B2430H. I have used this (and other similar modern Samsung monitors) using both VGA and DVI cables and have never noticed any differences on a subjective or technical level. Generally any DVI cable would offer you a good picture and anything over a couple of pounds is simply a waste of money. It's like all of this gold-plated nonsense and dynamic contrast designed to lure in gullible consumers. Are you sure your graphics card didn't come with some sort of VGA to DVI adaptor?

I agree with the above to some extent, however, generally speaking there is a visible difference between VGA and DVI.

The big thing to note here is that DVI is digital, and vga is analogue, so in terms of monitors it is always preferable to use a digital connection.

To answer the initial question, I would go with a cheap DVI cable, as in a fiver or thereabouts, there is no benefit in buying an expensive digital cable.
You could argue that the construction is better, but there's no point spending money on a digital cable, digital is as digital does.

Vga if im correct can support higher refresh rates up to 75hz but has to convert the digital image from the gfx card to analogue along the way.

Dvi can support refresh rate up to 60hz but is solely digital and can support a higher resolution.

I do believe however there is a xvga cable which supports higher resolutions.

Please correct me if I am wrong and beat me down with a digital stick :D
