My 19" IIyama CRT suddenly decided yesterday to blow up... It's a year and 7 months old now... Not sure if its still covered by warranty, might look into that...

It looks like i'll be buying a new screen though and I think its definetly time to go LCD. I was thinking of getting a 20/21" screen but I wouldn't mind a 19" if its way better than its 20/21 counterpart.

I'll use my monitor mainly for internet browsing and gaming.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what would be a good monitor to buy?

Thanks in advance.

problem with tft's is the pricing is like hard drives. you get to a certain point when the step up to the next size is a stupid increase in price.

e.g 15inch tft costs 85, 17inch tft cost 100, 19 inch tft costs 130, 20 inch tft will cost 300.

you catch my drift?

go for a decent 19 incher. and if you play games it will be easier for the gfx card to stick to the 19 inchers native rez.

Looking at some sites it seems that my iiyama comes with a 3 year warranty... I have no experience with these things, anyone know where I should call/ what I should do?

Will I have to pay for the delivery charges? if so... it might be worthwhile to go with a tft n e way.

Hi,

This week I received my Dell 2007WFP 20" Widescreen.

I find it brilliant for everything from web browsing, web design to gaming.

The monitor is really well made and has a nice solid stand with height, tilt and swivel adjustment.

It has DVI and VGA inputs. The VGA input is really good and I can't see any difference over DVI.

If you use VGA then the monitor will auto resize the desktop and you can also use the on screen display to adjust for older games that will not play in widescreen. It has 1:1 pixel mapping, 4:3 and fill settings.

There is a little bit of backlight bleed but it's nothing to worry about and I only notice it in really dark scenes.

Gaming is good and I havent noticed any ghosting at all.

I have tested it with Call Of Duty 1 & 2, Painkiller and Need For Speed Most Wanted. All of them run perfectly. Older games like call Of Duty can be made to run in widescreen by making changes in the game config file.

Very good monitor and I am very pleased with it.

Forgot to mention...I have the A02 revision which has no problems with banding.

if you look at the iiyama site you will get a tel no on it, i had a 22" iiyama which the colour was getting very dull on & i was going to replace it with a tft, it was 2 1/2 years old, a friend said that he thought there was a 3 year swap out warranty with them, i checked the site, phoned them & got a refurbished one within 4 days, cost me nothing.

Thanks for all the help, I phoned iiyama up but since my model is a 19" vision master pro 454, it's going to take a while before they can send out a replacement. They don't really make them anymore.

They said they'd do a straight swap for me or they could repair mine... Repairing would take up to 14 days.

I've started work recently (1.5 weeks) and since I'm in the office from 8:30 - 6:30 (at least) every weekday its annoying for me to arrange a time, they only pick up/deliver on weekdays. Rather than have to arrange two dates, i've decided to wait and hopefully they can come back with a refurbished one soon.

Thanks again.
