Buying a new graphics card need help

The card uses 1.5v as it is AGP 8x, 3.3v hasn't been used since AGP 1x/early 2x so you don't have to worry on that score. What is the rest of your system, you might find that buying a 6800gt or similar secondhand is better value for money.

Hi, tbh I am only going to buy new for this as my last card I bought was borked(maybe not the sellers fault) my system is-
P4 3.0ghz ht
2 gig 400 mhz memory
audigy sound
not a brill board but it works
then just the external stuff which is better than the internal lol..
or would I be better off buying the BFG card on the same link ?
HELP lol..
Rgds, Wayne..

Ok true enough but I didn't see the point in complicating matters as it would work since 3.3v hasn't been used for years :)

The Gainward is the better card because it is basically a 7900gt core in AGP form, it has more pipelines than the BFG as well so if you have the cash and want to buy new without changing motherboard then it is probably the best option.

You could look for a PCI-E socket 478 motherboard and get an X1800XT for roughly the same price or less which might be worth a look.

Don't waste your hard earned cash on a stupidly overpriced card simply because it's AGP. Seriously, there's about £100 added to this card simply because it's AGP, you can get a better performing card for nearly half the price.

p:s My cpu is a skt 775 800mhz fsb with a 2 mb cache

what you have to ask yourself, is would you rather buy a pci-e version of the card and a new pci-e motherboard, or would you rather buy the agp card form roughly the same price as the pci-e card+motherboard.

Keep it in mind that the only real reason (imo) to upgrade to a pci-e board is for future upgrading possibilities. conroe for example. It all depends on what you want to do.

Well you could get the faster, and much cheaper x1800 XT 256mb on PCI-E for only £152, then spend the other £100+ on a decent PCI-E mobo to go with it, thats an x1800 XT and a mobo for the same price as the 7800 GS. :)

If you want to stop Nvidia though, then the only other card for less (than the AGP GS) would be the 7900 GT on PCI-E also, but even thats slower than the x1800 XT, and its dearer, plus theres the fact that 7900's are borked, or if you would spend higher, then you could get the x1900 XT for only £240 + a PCI-E mobo. :)
