Hey guys

Going to treat myself to a new monitor tomorrow

Narrowed it down to these two

Monitor 1
Monitor 2

Now the price difference is quite large (on the place I'm buying from anyway, nearly £100), now are the differences going to be noticeable to me?

I'm going to be gaming primarily, but photo editing will be a big use too so would like good colours. I will be viewing head on

Any other recommendations would be great too

Can't go over £350 really

Cheers guys

Im not sure on what panels are used and about colours but the large res should be perfect for photo editing.

The moe expensive monitor has hdmi so you could plug games console/ HD movie player.

They both have good reviews, id say go for it unless there are issues with the panels (which im not sure about).

Cheers for the reply

Yeah I was thinking the cheaper one might not be a Samsung panel, like the 22" BW and CW scenario

Hopefully someone can clear that up though?

I have just bought the Samsung Sm245B to replace the excellent Viewsonic VX922, as well as being a superb gaming monitor it also had a low response time of 2ms.

I really needed a monitor that could match or better the Viewsonic. The reason i changed is because my 19" viewsonic was getting used more and more for the Xbox360, it just wasnt big enough.

Comparing the screens side by side i can confidentaly say that the samsung beats my old viewsonic hands down.

My biggest concern was with the response time if the samsung, i can safely say that there is no noticable blur or ghosting with the samsung.

Image quality is also top notch, running 1900x1200 within windows looks super sharp and incredibly detailed. PC games like COD4 suffer no ghosting or any issues.

Doing a simple google search for calibrating the samsung will give you some good settings to use.

After tweaking the monitor i have found it to give a far natural colour balance, superb sharpness and clarity.

Gaming on the 360 is so much better now. With the VGA cable i can run the 360 at 1920x1080 with no issues at all. GTA4 looks natural and detailed and Euro 2008 looks fantastically sharp with nice green pitches and of course no ghosting.

I couldnt get the monitor to scale properly with the 360, edges were missing and it wouldnt run at 1920x1080.

Thankfully i found a tip on the internet that suggested i change to 1280x1024 and confirm, then change to 1920x1080 and when it asks if you would like to keep the changes select no.

Weirdly enough this works, now the monitor displays 360 games in 1080 and its awesome.

I am very picky when it come to picture quality, being in the television trade had taught me what to look for and what not to look for.

I have no regrets in buying the Samsung SM245b and would definately recommend to anyone who was looking for a good quality 24" monitor.

Hope this helps :-)

Hi Cobra,

Thanks for the useful information :)

How do you find the viewing angles on this screen? I was recently using a 22" w/s and the vertical angles weren't that good, but it wasnt a decent TN like the 245B might be? I was thinking it would be more noticeable at 24" than 22"?

:)

My bro has the samsung M-245B. Its a good screen but the viewing angles let it down. I personally wouldnt buy it. I would go for a better one, I have been looking at the HAZRO screen. Theres a post I just come off that reviews it. I'll probably end up with that....

Let us know what ever screen you do go for...
