Why don't you try out a Soldano Astroverb. They are really high quality amps and sound wonderful, work very well for bluesy tones, and are fairly cheap (around £850) - but you really need to road test one for yourself. I know you could try one out at Sounds Great Music near Stockport (as you say you're in Staffs it shouldn't be too far to travel).

Not many people seem to mention Soldano (they've been around for ages - early 90's Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Gary Moore to name but a few, have used other Soldano products).

Fender Blues hotrod... a lot of people like them... dont forget SRV used telegraph wires for strings... ie they were heavy guage... asre Pups... there are better sets... personally i recommend Rio Grande pups ...but Kinman... Bareknuckle etc all worth considering...

Well I was planning a work trip up to Manchester next week so I might accidently get lost on the way!
£850 is a little more than I wanted to spend but they also have some other amps I can try!

Would be interesting to see a guy do a slight bend on 24 gauge steel wire bottom E string and then go palm muted phrase on rubber shielded E and A. Unless of course he prefered copper telegraph wires. :D

Oh, the urban legends...

I notice that you can buy a highbrid set of Super Slinkys now 9,11,16,26,36,46.

I think 10-46's are a good compimise between sound and feel.

Of course the other thing that SRV did was to tune down half a tone to give his playing a little more slink! -I beleive Hendrix did the same.

My boss keeps an old acoustic in the office which he can't play and it has strings like coat hangers. I tuned it down a full tone and its now great for some real bendy blues! One of the gilrls in the office said " why can'tyou play proper guitar tunes like George MIcheal" -the last album she bought on her lunch break as Shane Ward!

I have a Laney LC30 MK2, 30watt class A tube amp and very nice it is too. Dials feel a touch on the cheap side, but the clean tone is ultra clean and as smooth sounding as you can get. It's often compared to the AC30.

Well I've gone and done some spending!

Bought:

Chrome Red American Strat
Peavey Classic 30 amp
Ibanez tube screamer (the re issue one)
ordered a set of Texas Special pick ups

I have'nt had time to try it at home and the wife doesn't even no I was buying another guitar....me thinks a tiff is in the air :D

I need to spend some time setting up the strat and getting the action a little lower. I have always been tempted to have a proffesional set up done. Can anyone recommend a guitar tech in the midlands/Staffs area?

I would also welcome any advice from any Strat experts on getting the trem to its best and most stable!

Blimey, bit of a spending spree there!! Gonna have to put up some pics mate.

I'm in need of some new guitars... a PRS would be nice, as too a Jackson Soloist, Telecaster, ES-335...

As for amps a nice Marshall JCM800 stack would be pretty spiffy, and I really want a Fender twin.

Oh to have about £10k to spare... :p
