Hi All,

Firstly happy new year :) - Hope you have a safe and wonderful night!

Apologies if I am in the incorrect area to be asking this kind of question but I need a little help deciding on what new TV to get and the last 2 TV's i've bough have been disappointing lol. The first TV had a poor/buggy graphical interface and second one was just a rubbish design (eventually fell over and broke) lol we rent so sadly i cant mount it on the wall.

I have a budget of £400, we are looking to get 43inch but can stretch to 50inch - any suggestion would be appreciated not much of a TV Guru myself haha.

Thank you,

Kindest regards
James

TV / movies or gaming?

For TV/movies get oled.

TV & Movies :) OLED, that a bit pricey dont think id be able to afford that within our budget haha.

Stretch to the biggest size you can fit in the room at a reasonable price and set your expectations with such a low budget. £400 doesn't buy you much of a TV at all that is of any quality. OLED or at least a proper QLED should be bare minimum for anyone purchasing a TV who actually enjoys sitting down for some immersion.

50" will be the biggest we can fit in out tiny living room haha - If I had too stretch the budget it would be to £500 but at the moment I cannot justify paying more sadly as much as I'd like to... :( I just dont want to spend £400 on a pile of junk.

Do you have access to Costco? They usually have some good deals.
No, sadly not.

Would highly recommend looking for a second hand TV really - get familiar with the model codes so you can spot the year, then look for 2019 or 2020 models.

IMO Panasonic and and LG have some of the faster UIs which is a real thing for me. Get frustrated with laggy or flaky software.

LG Nanocell are lovely and very well featured TVs. Haven't been up close with Pana on the last couple of years. Hisense are a good follower too.

Hmm, I will keep my eye on LG that what was most fustrating about my last TV which was an impulse buy a Sharp :/ the GUI was so laggy and infact very flaky it would crash at times. I know it not a network issue. I was looking at Samsung :)

I dont know if im breaking the rules, I will remove if I am sorry, but I found this the reviews are a bit mish mash, in regards to the sound quality besides that what with the QLED? I assume it technology that been developed by Samsung?

Yeah I have a little one on the way which is why I wanna get bigger but the room itself is small and cannot justify any bigger than 50inch haha!

thank you all for your response!

1 thing that puts me off second hand, lack of warranty :/

Thank you, I honestly have zero clue, I need to do my homework to be honest for example, the room is pretty bright which might be issue with glare and contrast (aka washes out the image) trying not to overthink it but at the same time for me £500 is a lot of money and If it not right I be kicking myself XD

I should get myself to a curries to look at the tv's in action, but at the same time always good to seek help for the pro's :D aka you :)

Agree don't buy a cheap TV.
I will honestly say that you should spend more and get a good TV. You can get a 48 inch A1 OLED or a 50 inch Samsung Q80A for £799 which will blow away anything under £500.

Haha, I guess I shouldn't be snotty when picking a TV under £800 lol too me anything over £500 pounds is not cheaping out haha but I might hold off and save a little more before pulling the trigger. I have a working TV so I am not without.

Thank you all for your contributions :D appreciate it.

haha, sorry man. I hope I didn't come across all elitist. I understand completely. Money is hard to come by. And you are looking at a TV for £800 and one for £400 and going, why am I spend all that extra money??

For a TV, I think it's worth it. It's one of the most used devices in any house. And a good TV will still be a good TV in 5 years time and will probably be still going strong in 10 years time. If you are on a budget, always be looking around shops when manufacturers release a new range of TVs, You can get some amazing bargains on the previous generations models. My first OLED was the display model, it was their last one in stock and he let me have it for nearly half price. Back then I wouldn't have been able to afford a brand new one. 6 years later it still looks fantastic. People still comment on how good the picture quality is.

Nooooo please dont think that, what I meant was I shouldn't be so fussy and picky with selecting a TV with the budget I have given myself. :) I get where you are coming from on a future proofing point of view :) i am not really in a hurry to replace our current machine so I might take that advice already started saving model numbers. Not expecting massive discounts with the state of our current economy but I am going keep my eye on them :) I do appreciate all the advice I get.
