Hello,

Looking at getting a 80Gb PS3 this week :)

I have had a 360 from lauch but sold it June this year, i wanna get a console again now and fancy a change to the PS3 :) think its a good move ?

I have a HD TV what the best way of connecting the PS3 to it ? what cables does it come with ??

I am hoping to pick up, metal gear solid 4, call of duty 5, Resistance 2 and SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals - Confrontation to get me started lol what other games do u recommend i need to get ?

Any other bits of advice for buying a PS3 would also be great :)

Thanks

It comes with composite cables only, so you'll need an HDMI cable assuming your TV has an HDMI port. If not you'll be able to use component. Just a cheap £5 HDMI cable will do the job fine.

Not a bad choice of games, was going to suggest maybe checking out Little Big Planet and/or Unchartered, but from the games you've listed there I'm not sure if they'd be your sort of thing. What sort of games do you like?

You'll want either a HDMI or Component cable as already mentioned.

As for games I'd say definately pick up Uncharted & LBP as they are both excellent.

enjoy :)

Cheers lads :)

Will pick up a cheap HDMI cable ! can they be picked up in the shops cheap or just online ?

Anyone else moved from the 360 to PS3 ??? thoughts ?

I paid a tenner for my HDMI cable from a shop but obviously you can get one cheaper online.

Also went from a 360 to a PS3 mainly for Bluray as I love my films and IMO on a decent HDTV Bluray is superb. Gaming wise it was slow last year but this year I'm more than happy that I went for a PS3 as the diversity in quality games is always stronger with Sony's consoles :)

I moved from Xbox to PS3, and a good move at that, whilst the games library wasnt brilliant, free online was a plus as was blu ray, plus you have the built in features which you have to pay extra for the 360 (network adapter, hd drive)

the only gripe I have with the PS3 which I still have to this day is the online service is nowhere near as good as xbox live, but at a nice cost of £0 per year, I cant complain too much. Home may change things and the game library has expanded brilliantly now so I think its safe to say a PS3 is a sound investment.

I got another 360 again a few months back but its used more by my brother and dad, I only play fable on it and other exclusives.

I would suggest getting Metal Gear solid aswell if you happened to have a Playstation beforehand and have played the older games :)

I did nearly 7 months ago now. Sold my XBOX Elite for a PS3 and never looked back....

The wireless network, free online and BD playback are excellent features, but I also prefer the XMB, configuration of movie playback from my media server and the games choice is now getting very good...

Recently been some good firmware updates, PSP charging, DS3 and overall I'm very pleased with my PS3.

the hardware is whisper quiet, upscaling DVD playback is handy, and I purchased a bluetooth remote for controlling it as a full blu ray player, and hooked up to my plasma screen, well its just everything I need...

I also use the digital audio out, and the sound from my home cinema is fantastic...

£300 for all you get is still a good deal, even though a 360 is now £130.... you get a lot more for your money, if you aren't bothered about Xbox only titles...

Hope that helps...

Oh, and any old HDMI lead works.... I'm using my Xbox elite HDMI lead (the one that came in the elite box - I never gave it to the guy I sold it to... )

My friend just sold his ps3 and went back to a 360. This was a lot to do with the controller though.

Cheers for replies lads :)

PS3 for me pick one up some time this week :D

Is HDMI better than component ???

Cool me crazy but I actually prefer the Component as it gives a slightly softer picture so acts as a slight filter to help smooth the aliasing in games a little, plus the blacks seem to be a little better, but the one draw back is that you can't play blu-rays @1080p over component.

You're crazy. PS3 games have enough softening blur in them as it is. :D
