Hi Guys,

I'm considering purchasing an import ps3 from a certain well known auction site, which model is the best to go for ie, US / Japanese .
Keep seeing quite a few of the hong kong version which uses the same power supply as in the UK ...so wouldn't require a stepdown convertor, are these any good? or are they inferior to the other two.

some advice from anyone who's imported a ps3 would be great :-)

Thanks in advance.

I believe (but not 100% certain) that all three of the new consoles (Wii, PS3 & Xbox 360) have 110/230v 50/60Hz PSUs, so you shouldn't need a step up transformer, only a plug change.

No idea if the PS3s are region locked though, that would be the biggest sticking point.

I think most people go for the US version as movies are region locked so at least with a US one you can still import US movies to watch - games aren't region locked.

Jap and US are the same region for BD anyway, so as far as I can see it really doesn't matter which you get.

Hi, thanks for the replies...would preferably prefer a US version but they seem pretty expensive compaired to the Jap/ Hk ps3's which aren't cheap.
ok off too have another look.

My US Wii and Japan Xbox 360 don't have multi-voltage power bricks. Hong Kong uses the same power standard as the UK so you'll save a bit on however many billion jigawatt stepdown is required :D If Blu-ray movies are important, HK is kind of isolated in region C http://www.blu-raydisc.com/Section-13470/Section-14003/Section-14006/Index.html

PS3 games are supposed to be region free which is cool but locked for PS2/PS1 games. Meaning the HK machine will only play Asian games.
