Buying a PS3 secondhand?

Personally I'd buy one of the newer models. Hard drive size doesn't come into it really as they can all be upgraded by removing a screw, pulling the old one out and shoving a new one in.

Steer clear of the old phats as they're all ticking time bombs of YLoD.

I have an original Japanese launch model still chugging away god bless him.

Managed to get it working. I must say that Netflix works very well on it. As do the other media services - certainly better than what is available on the Roku and similar.

The only annoying one is Blinkbox, for some reason they can do HD on the 360 but not on the PS3. If you're going to be using it for media a lot I can recommend the official remote, works nicely and saves having to mess around with the controller all the time.

Depends which games you're in to, any game that doesn't have an install option from disc will be unbearably noisy in a ps3 super slim because it's just a cheap bit of thin plastic covering the drive.

For example fifa 14 has no install to hard drive option on ps3 and loads of other games don't either or only have a small bit of install.

Get an older style slim.

The husk of my launch day ps3 is sitting in a cupboard downstairs.

This thread is making me tempted to bring it back to life for the second time. I don't care what anyone says, those first 60gb models were the best ones by a mile.

Between the Slim and the Superslim which should I go with?

I have read all sorts of conflicting stuff online. And how reliable are they? Is it worth considering a second hand one from a private seller (MM here for example)

My slim PS3 locks up all the time and resets.

Can't be bothered with the 8 week wait when i take it to my local supermarket. :(

So I live with it. Rather annoying sometimes though.
