If I were to buy a used Dell monitor with (two years left of warranty) like a U2410, U2711 or U3011 would I be able to get a replacement by calling Dell if I wasn't happy with the panel, light leakage, tint issues etc?

I know you can transfer warranty ownership their website and the original owner should have returned it if it has tint issues but technically I'm now the owner and I still paid quite a bit so I should have the right to have a good working panel?

What if he did? I haven't bought it yet I'm waiting for OCUK to get then back in stock but I have seen a good used deal. I guess what I'm asking is has anyone bought a used Dell monitor and gotten a replacement?

I'm not sure that that is relevant when dealing with monitors. It's my understanding that you just need the order number off the box and the serial number. The order number actually refers to the company whom it was initial delivered to, not the end user - so that never changes.

On my screens, I've used a label printer to print the order number onto the back of panel near the serial number - this way if I do loose the boxes, it's not going to cause issue in the future.

You don't need any sort of ownership transfer, I've done just this, and they just took the serial from the back of my monitor and sent some one out the next day to swap it over.

this exactly.

i have worked for 4 years at dell technical support.

that number is called a "service tag".

What is the order number off the box? I've seen this in my warranty blurb

To make a warranty call with Dell simply call 0844 338 1200 ask for the monitor department quoting the works order number and serial number. The warranty is logged against the monitor serial number and does not need registering. Dell works order number can be found on the original box outer packaging (The number at the top of the Dell packing label), the serial number is on the back of the monitor.

Does that number just make it easier to narrow down the purchase date?

the service tag can be different.

i.e. on laptops and computers it's a 7 digit alphanumerical combination ending in the letter J

(or was, it's been another 4 years since i was working there)

in case of monitors, printers and generally peripherals, the service tag is in fact the serial number, which is i think 20 digits (also alphanumerical) with dashes every 5 digits. would have to look on my monitor, but i'm at work atm, do DELLs here :)

What if I got a used screen with two years warranty left and it had pink tint on one half, could I get a replacement sent out or do I have to pay postage?

The warranty is with the monitor not the owner. I am the 2nd owner of my U2410 which ive had replaced next day. The left the old one with me for a few days so it didnt effect me changing it over then collected it.
