OK, so I'd love one of these cars, but it would be a toy, not a necessity so I'd like to work out how much it would cost me.

This is the one I've seen

Here are my questions to the good folk of OcUK Motors:

1) How much should I expect to pay the dealer vs the advertised price?

I've done some research - a private sale can be had for £14.5-15k, but they have a few more miles. Should I expect to negotiate a discount on an AUC BMW?

Here's what CAP thinks it's worth (seems a shade low):

2) What would (your best guess) this car be worth in 3 years?

I don't think I love it enough to take a massive loss in depreciation, but part of the appeal is that it won't be losing money hand over fist on a car like this. Am I right or is it actually a terrible idea?

How deep are your pockets? Reasonably perhaps if that's your idea of a weekend toy...

If depreciation is an issue maybe pay more for something that won't depreciate much if at all over the ownership term?

Different car of course but I know of somebody who had an M3 CSL for weekend use and a few track days, he kept it for 2 1/2 years and sold it at a considerable profit a few months back.

Can't help otherwise ( I imagine my whole post isn't too helpful either!! :o :p )it was just a thought. :)

Hi there

Low ball them, offer them 15.5k and work from there, if they don't want to budge on price so much, then request free extended warranty, free service programme or maybe some updates/options like new mats.

But until you try, you don't know, you have nothing to loose. :)

Z4Ms tend to be holding their values quite well currently because they're relatively rare and don't have a direct replacement (there's no E89 M version). They're also not overly complicated/gadget laden and are based on a tried and tested platform so shouldn't be astronomical to keep on the road for extended time/mileage.

You wouldn't expect the depreciation to drop like a stone, but it's always difficult to tell.

The guys (and gals) over at www.z4-forum.com/forum/ are always very helpful if you need more advice :).
