I've long been looking for a means of replacing the bulky lever-arch file I lug to uni, and after seeing a friend use an iPad combined with a capacitive stylus and and a great PDF annotation app, it would seem this is the way forward. Understandably, with note-taking being the main use here, I'm not fussed about anything the iPad 2 brings to the table, so I'm looking for an iPad 1.

I was hoping some of you could give me an idea of when/how is best to buy one, considering the imminent UK iPad 2 release. They seem to pop up on the Apple Store daily at £289 refurbished, which seems good, but is this likely to decrease after the 25th? There also seem to be some good deals to be had on the MM, although the lack of warranty is a slight concern.

Advice appreciated!

Hard to say, usually Apple products don't hang around long once the upgrade is out but you can still buy the 3GS in Apple stores. The iPad 1 is £329 with full warranty at the mo and I think it would be a gamble to wait until the iPad 2 is out as the v1's could simply disappear off the shelves.

They should keep popping up in the refurb store for a while shouldn't they though? There are still last gen MBP 13" models in there.
