I'm looking at a BMW with 99k miles on it. I can get a comprehensive BMW warranty on it, but I'm aware that they don't offer this over 100k miles. This means if I pay annually, I'll only get comprehensive for 1 year, as I'll do more than 1000 miles this year.

How does this work if I pay monthly? At what point do they realise that the car has done over 100k miles and stop giving me a warranty?

It continues indefinitely but they reserve the right to review it.

It is hard to think of a single BMW where the comprehensive warranty price at over 60k miles is anything other than eyewatering though. You also open yourself up to more issues with 'wear and tear' at bigger miles.

Hmmm. It's this car: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...id/b716332a5cf0d7abe06bb3c3e2dc76fd?logcode=p

which is apparently £53pm. Which is £636 per year. It's quite a lot, but my buy budget is a little bigger than the cost price, and I can afford the monthly outgoing. It's also the only cloth-seated E91 330/335i with nav that's come on the market in the last few months, which is why I'm looking at what the actual implications of running it would be. Yes, it's a bit scuffy on the inside, but I'm not too fussed about that.

If 99k is a silly mileage to buy at, I'll move on and wait another 4 months for a better one to show up. Car buying :(

That sounds cheap!

BMW want £2817 for fully comp warranty on a >60k M135i!

Are you sure? The regular F20 1 Series price for > 60k is £800 a year or so. Sounds like they've priced it as a genuine M car

How have you got a quote, I didn't think any M135i was out of it's original warranty yet?

I rang them yesterday to ask what it was going to cost once it got to that stage, and these are the prices they gave me.

<60K miles:
Fully comp: £1130
Named component: £891
Driveline: £672

>60K miles:
Fully comp: £2817
Named component: £2177
Driveline: £1444

All the above with £0 excess.

I winced a bit, as for the fully comp it's about 4 times what I'd budgeted for!

But you're right, there aren't any M135is which are out of the original warranty yet.

Someone on these very forums confirmed a few months ago that they don't offer a £0 excess policy during the first year after the manufacturer's warranty expires, so I would take these figures with an oil tanker sized pinch of salt.

Its the other way round, they do offer it but only for renewals not new policies.

Nice :) What was the price out of interest?

I'll be way under 60K by the time my M135i hits 3 years, but £1130 is a lot more than I thought it would be :( Fox, do you know what the fully comp warranty renewal is for a "normal" F20 under 60K miles?

EDIT: I ran a quote for an 18000 mile 61 plate 116i:

ANNUAL PAYMENT
Comprehensive Warranty with Emergency Service
Excess: £100
£517.00 per year

MONTHLY PAY AS YOU GO?
Comprehensive Warranty with Emergency Service
Excess: £100
£48.01 each month
=======================================
ANNUAL PAYMENT
Comprehensive Warranty
Excess: £100
£428.00 per year

MONTHLY PAY AS YOU GO?
Comprehensive Warranty
Excess: £100
£40.00 each month

It wouldn't allow me to select a £0 excess because it's not a renewal :)

£750 for £100 which I think is the better deal.

£233 more than the 116i which isn't bad!

EDIT: Unless £750 is the monthly payment x 12, in which case the 116i is only £174 cheaper.

So I was seeing £53 on a £250 excess on the 335i. At a £100 excess, think that goes up to £80ish.

If BMW decide to 'review' the warranty, I'm guessing it no longer gets a comprehensive warranty it drops to Driveline. I'm also guessing the most complex, expensive bits on a 335i are covered by Driveline, but things like suspension etc. isn't. Hmm.

I have a 535d on 143,000 miles still on a monthly Comp warranty, and I've brought the fact I have the comprehensive warranty to BMW and Mondial's attention a multitude of times... they have never 'reviewed it'. That said, they have started rejecting some claims, though I've eventually bullied them in to paying under 'good will'.

Sounds good. What sort of thing did they reject?
