Hello,

Im planning on buying a Intel Pentium 4 805 Dual Core "LGA775 Smithfield" 2.66GHz and hoping to overclock it to 3.8Ghz. But im wondering what cooler I should buy? I've heard Zalman's are good so possibly a Zalman CNPS9500-AT Aero Flower? Is it possible for me to even overclock to 3.8Ghz on a £30 cooler budget? Im planning on buying it with an Asus P5WD2 Premium Intel 955X with G.Skill 2GB DDR2 LA PC2-5300.

Any information is useful so please help me :)

Cheers,
Michael

Edit: Forgot to mention I have an Antec TruePower II 480W

Mine is being cooled by a AC Freezer 7 Pro. Seems to be fine.

If your board can support the clock and your PSU can supply the power it should be okay doing 3.8ghz with a decent air cooling setup. By that I mean also having a good air flow through the case.

Will depend some on the chip...think mine has a lower base voltage req than the THG tested one (will do up to 3.6 at stock volts) but I'd guess most people will be fine at 3.8 on air, it's likely 4ghz and up where way more volts will be needed and the heat will shoot up.

Cheers Akhamar,
Any views on the AC Freezer 7 Pro vs Zalman Aero Flower? Or maybe there is even better for £30 or less?

Plus how do I know if my board will be able to support it? I'm hoping 480W can supply it I only recently bought it! On the topic of PSUs I should probably state my (hopefully) specs:

Intel D805 @ 3.8Ghz
7600GT
Asus P5WD2 Premium
G.Skill 2GB DDR2 667Mhz (LA PC2-5300)
Creative Audigy 2
2xDiamondMax 9 200gb

And about the airflow, should I consider buying a new case? I have a Chieftec Midi Tower which I cant remember the name of will it be ok? As I cant remember the name of it ill just supply a picture.

I've heard Antec P180's (I think thats the name) are good, a pain to setup but good.

Thanks again.

P180's are pretty good cases.

If you want an easy to setup, good airflow, excellent value case though you can't go wrong with the Lian-Li PC7+.

Freezer 7 Pro is the best cost/performance cooler on the market. Zalman have taken themselves so far upmarket that they are now just an overpriced brand. The Thermaltake Blue Orb is less, but the same factory produces both, to exactly the same spec. Only the colours are different.

For a case - The Super Lanboy is very good value at the moment, the Lian-Li PC-7 (120mm fan model) is a bargain, but still quite a lot of money. The Jeantech Phong 1 (not 2) can be had for £20 at the moment and is a fantastic case for that sort of money.

ASUS 210 with PSU is a great case for the money in my opinion too.

I've never been happy with Antec products - too many fiddly little screws and funny shaped power supplies!.

On the subject of PSU's - I like Akasa Paxpower 460W as it's the right sort of money, it genuinely is a true 460W model and it's silent.

Another vote for the Freezer 7 Pro here!

Cools my 805 @ 3.1Ghz on stock volts to the 50 to 55 region under max load.

Cheers! Freezer 7 Pro it is. Looks like its very popular on these forums :).

Are both these cases better than the Antec P180? And which is better, the Super LANBOY or the lian-li PC-7. I don't really like the LEDs in the Super LANBOY is there a way of taking them out? Lian PC-7 looks good, a bit bland but anything which will do the job will suite me.

Thanks WJA96!
