Buying First Computer

Hiya all, new user looking for some advice on buying my first PC.
First of all what I am hoping to get is a computer that can run the latest games (Crysis, CoD, Aion you know the lot) on fairly high settings. Also would like to be able to use it with 3DS Max, Sony Vegas and get some fairly good render times. I'm not that fussed about the latter though.

£700 is my limit and I don't want to build the computer myself as I know I'll screw it up xD. So I've been looking at the pre-built PC's on the website and the PC Configurator option. I'll put a list of the items I got from the PC config page and hope you guys can give me some advice on alternative components or a cheaper option.

- Coolermaster Elite 335 Case - Black (No PSU)
- Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.16GHz (1333FSB) - Retail
- Titan TTC-NK85TZ Fenrir CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/LGA775/LGA1366)
- Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3 Intel P43 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
- Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel (KHX8500D2K2/4G)
- XFX ATI Radeon HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
- Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3500418AS)
- LG GH22NS30 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM
- OCZ ModXStream Pro 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Modular Power Supply
- Onboard Sound Card (ZERO COST)

Total cost: £651.24

So one thing I was wondering is that should I go for the THIS processor over the duo core? I noticed I'd be getting more hertz(correct term? =P) with the duo and more cache but the does the extra 2 cores make up for this loss, or am I better off scrapping intel and going for the AMD Tri

Also is the power supply going to be enough to support all of these components or should I choose one with a bigger bite?

And if theres anything else that looks bad in the build please tell me, adn heres the link for the PC config page.

Many thanks!

Edit: I don't plan on overclocking it.

Nothing wrong with on-board sound. I would say maybe get a better case. I know it's cheap but maybe throw a few more £ at that.

hey and welcome
firstly, building your own pc isnt that difficult, but, that being said OcUK do some pretty good deals anyway

Id recomend you look at the AMD tricore option paired with a 4870 1gig, this would be a very good rounded system, the standard power supply is fine, and to save money you could use a copy of windows 7 RC1, maybe up the case to the antec300 (using the pc configuratoras a guide)
Edit: why are you not planning on OCing? again this is a lot easier than you might think, certainly for the initial stages, it only takes work to get those final few 100MHz extra but you should be able to get a nice 500MHz quite easily, its free performance at the end of the day - just have a read of the stickies on here, you cant go far wrong and youre very very very unlikely to damage anything if thats your concern

BTW we mean the 720 model.

Thanks a lot for the replies guys, really appreciate it.
From your replies I guess I'm gonna go for a better case, and from doing a bit of research online and as Thrifles suggestion I think I will go for the AMD tri core.

Other than that I guess I might find some more infor about overclocking, anyways thanks a lot all! =)

If you are going for the Intel rig, then you should go with the e8500 over the Q8400...

Also, as the others have suggested you should look into getting a larger case...
