Hi all,

I'm pricing up the cost of a used but better (not new) car and the showroom has added in £1k of extras like GAP insurance (£400), alloy wheel repair cover (£200) and some paint/interior protection stuff (£400).

I know I can get GAP privately for £110 but are the others worth getting or am I being bent over?

By the way, any tips on negotiating? I'm getting finance with lump sum payment at the end over three years.

Cheers

This won't go down well :p

Why? Surely it's better that I'm asking the questions than just nodding and taking a £1k hit? Not everyone knows the best tactics when buying cars and if these things are worth it. If people want to rip into me for asking the right questions then shame on them tbh.

You have already offended the OcUK lot for renting a new car that you will lose loads of money on soon as it leaves the showroom. You could just get one what is a year old at 3 quarters of the price and still have plenty of warranty on it.

OcUK will disapprove no matter what offer they have given you :p

If it is a company car, ignore everything I say :)

It's not new. It's one and a half years old. Edit: sorry, I see why you'd think I meant new, new from my OP. I meant "changing to a better car".

There's no way I could wait around to save £12k if they have a problem using finance.

You dont need any of those add ons from a dealer. Buy the GAP off the internet and forget about the others.

95% margin for the dealer.

100% this, your being fleeced.

Paint protection . . . . Con!

Alloy wheel repair cover . . . . When was the last time you damaged an alloy?

Gap insurance . . . . Cheaper elsewhere, but depending on the price of the car, do you really need it?

Been there, done that, never again, last dealer tried to sell me tyre insurance for a reduced price of £300 as "runflats can't be repaired". A week later I picked up a 2" screw in the rear tyre, took it to local tyre fitters and got it repaired for £20 and saved myself (so far) £280.
