I need a new/larger HD for this laptop and looking at the Dell site I am schocked how expensive they are!
The laptop has an 80gig SATA-133 hard drive and I need at least 120 gig replacement for it...can anyone advise on where/if I can buy one from another source.

Many thanks

Thx TheVoice!

Should I be looking for a Sata Notebook 2.5" one for this Laptop?

Anyone change HD in a similar laptop before? I have experience in building desktop systems but never have delved into the innards of a laptop...
Guess I better go checkout the mobo specs and HD compatibility from Dell; it's belongs to my X-wife so a lot is ridding on this... =)

Any advice would be appreciated

Cheers

If it's an SATA drive you need, any of the 2.5" SATA drives on Overclockers (or any other retailer) should work nicely. I tend to stick to Seagate myself.

If your Dell is anything like mine, there's a flap on the bottom (usually metal) which has the hard-drive underneath. Just unscrew that, take it off, unscrew the screw holding the HDD cage in place, slide the cage to one side and remove, then just do the reverse of the new drive. Be aware that you'll obviously need a Windows disc, and the drivers (best to get all the latest drivers from the Dell website for best performance).

Thanks again for all the info TheVoice! Very helpful indeed.

There is a Windows XP disk for it so that's half the battle dealt with. Will check Dell site for all the relevant drivers etc.

Finally got around to changing HD and after initial concerns/fear it ended up being the easiest thing I have ever done as far as upgrades go :) .

Just popped out the original HD, slotted in the new one (Seagate Momentus 5400.4 250GB 5400RPM SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM (ST9250827AS) ), re-install the OS/divers etc and that was it! Done wonders for system performance, all running smooth and fast, plenty of extra space and saved a small fortune buying it from OCUK. Very happy X-wife :D

Many thanks again TheVoice for your advice m8!

Cheers
