Buying MMORPG in-game items for real cash

I'm not talking about the gold farming stores for games like World of Warcraft or a certain auction site, but Archlord, a MMORPG I was looking at has announced a "PlayPlus" system where if you paid a higher subscription fee you could get more in-game items. You can also buy in-game items from the games store when it launches.

I know there's a lot of people against it for most games but what about those that allow this sort of thing from official game stores? Would you join a game that had an item store like this where you could buy items with real cash from them or do you find it "sad"?

Edit: I'm talking about official game stores where you can buy items, not games that have had it banned like EVE, WoW etc. :)

It defeats the object of the game. I would class it as a cheat really. Your meant to work for what you have in games these days, not just buy them and not have earned ther item.

CCP the developers of Eve Online ban account that are caught doing this. As they see it as a cheat.

Whats the point in playing if your just going to buy your way through a game ?

I remember blowing up a pilot in eve he had just bought his Armageddon Battleship from ebay and he was not happy as he lost real life cash because of me. He was flying a ship he could not use properly so why buy it ?

Im against it 100%

I couldn't agree more. Questing to get a rare item is one of the main points of playing an MMORPG, people who buy these things with real money are just like people who watch the end of a film before the rest.

Read up on how the system works, it actually doesn't sound that bad.

So you need to spend money to purchase items in ArchLord?

Absolutely not. It’s important to stress that ArchLord features a standard currency / item system as with any MMORPG. The in-game currency system is used to purchase all of your standard items such as armour, weapons, items etc just the same as any MMORPG. PlayPLUS credits can only be redeemed for a small selection of consumable enhancements that are completely separate from the traditional in-game item system.

But doesn’t PlayPLUS just reward paying rather than playing players

PlayPLUS rewards commitment and not paying players. A player willing to put the time into playing ArchLord will always progress faster in the game than a player willing to purchase extra in-game credits. ALL players receive FREE credits each month and even the lowest credit amount is enough to purchase the most expensive consumable enhancement.

I still don't like the sound of it.
