Going to upgrade to 4GB as I think Vista will be fair bit nicer with it.

Should I just get another 2GB of the ram I already have, or getting some newer stuff?

Here's my spec:

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600
Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel
Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU

Hiya

I wouldn't to be honest. I recently went from 4GB to 2GB with Vista Home Premium. With everyday use i've seen no difference whatsoever. Even in games nothing noticeable.

If you do, I would go for the same you've already got. It's good ram.

Were you running Vista 64?

I'll probably just get more of the same memory, you really can't complain at that price.

I've got 32-bit so got exactly 3.5GB. It's only 40 notes though. The only problem you might have it that 4x1GB puts a strain on the memory controller so won't overclock as well as 2x1GB. I you haven't gt a huge overclock though it won't make a difference.

I'd go for the 4GB upgrade with 2 extra sticks of what you've already got.

Plus with your set up you could easily reach 3.0+GHz on stock cooling with the 4x1GB of RAM, without getting much bigger load temps.

I just can't be bothered with risking stability at the moment. I know i've got a Q6600 which is deal for O/Cing, but right now I just don't feel the need.

Cheers guys i'll just got for another 2GB of the same stuff then (can't believe how cheap it is!)

Kept getting BSOD when I added the new RAM.

Took it out because I was doing a Vista install, but I think it's because my ram voltage is only set up 1.8v and on the ram needs 2.1v. I'll have to test it when I get home.

It worked fine at 1.8v with just 2GB though?

Strange that, my set up is same as yours bar gfx, mine would boot into windows on 1.8v, but as soon as i ran any prog would BSOD in about 30secs. Until I upped RAM to 2.1.

Yeah that's exactly what was going on. Before I formatted I got into Windows fine but it crashed when I did something, it was doing the same when I got abit into the Vista install.

No harm is having the voltage at 2.1, it does say to do so. I never noticed when I installed the first 2GB of RAM though, and I never had any problems either so I didn't notice the mistake.

I'll chuck the new 2GB back in tonight and increase the voltage and see what happens, i'm expecting it to work fine.

As soon as you up the volts you should have no probs what so ever when you chuck in the extra ram. Let us know how you get on matey, I'm thinking of getting another 2 sticks myself :D
