looking into buying a Macbook or Macbook Pro but just cant decide which??

Main useage will be internet, personal web dev, occasional photoshop and bit of gaming (footy manager, command & conquer etc) also looking to dual boot it with vista or XP

1. Will the macbook work with my 20" and 24" monitors at their native res?
2. Is the macbook integrated GPU capable of running any newish games at playable quality?

Or should i just go for the base model 15" Mac book pro? i get an educational discount on both.

any help or advice appreciated :)

1. Yes
2. Iffy as I haven't seen the new chips in action, I would side with no though.

Base MacBook Pro sounds much better suited to your needs, specifically gaming and Photoshop (think of the res) if you're not using an external monitor all the time.

If you want to play games MBP.

If you want it for everything else then get the MB.

What type of games do you hope to be playing as you have no chance for the really high end.

Thanks,
Strategy games mainly, Total war II etc just stuff to keep me occupied whilst travelling on trains etc. Not really FPS as i have a rig at home for that.

Yes Mac book pro was my first thought but the macbook is £400+ less so i could afford to fit 4GB RAM and get 3 year apple care but maybe in long term the MBP is better choice?

+1

i run my macbook through a 22" samsung and use it for photoshop/illustrator/indesign and it copes perfectly well unless i'm really hammering on the filters in ps which aint all that often...

games wise, it can handle old games like warcraft 3 and return to castle wolfenstein nicely but you aint really got a chance of running modern stuff...

if you do go macbook (well, or mbp for that matter), stick 4gig of ram in yourself makes a great difference to the day-to-day running ;)
