Hey all,

I am about to (next week or so) to buy parts for my new upgrade. I am currently wondering about the graphics card.

Budget is variable but I want to keep it down if possible. Looking at around £100-£140.

I am thinking of getting OcUK 7900GS 256mb. Is it a good card to go for or should I go for something else? My concern is that since it is not one of the big-name brands, and I think the warranty is only a year.

I have also been wondering about the EVGA version for it's step-up, but as I mentioned in another post, which got only one reply, I do not want to get it if there is not going to be any DX10 cards out within the next 90 days that are around £240-£280.

Thanks for any input!

For that budget the 7900GS is the best option.

Dont worry about the year warrenty, by this time next year you will be likely upgrading anyway, and theres nothing saying that it will break the day after your warrenty expires. I wouldnt worry, however you can get a good brand card with a good warrenty for the same 140.

I have been running one of the ocuk 7900gs cards for a while now and cannot fault it,the brand is "Palit" unless it has changed.

ok, I have read up on Palit Reviews and I am encouraged. I will go for the OcUK version.

Quick question though, is there any performance difference between the 256mb version and 512mb?

Thanks

Good choice - another guy on here got amazing OCs with his card. Get ATi Tool/Rivatuner and go for it!

The memory on the 512 is a bit faster than the memory on the 256 version. More memory really comes into its own with higher resolutions (i.e. greater than 1280 x 1024). If you can afford it go for the more memory, but if you can't the 256MB card still looks very good.

Thanks for the advice. My LCD monitor has a max res of 1280x1024 anyway, so seems there may be no point in going for the 512mb version.

I will probably order as soon as the "deals of the week" changes, hopyfully there will be a part I am after and can save a few quid.

Thanks again.
