Hi Guys

I'm buying a new laptop, I am going to go for Windows 8.1. If I want to set up a home network, is Windows 8.1 good? Is there anything I should be aware of or think about before I buy the laptop?

Thanks :D

It's about as secure as any other windows o/s as far as I'm aware . Running my Linux naps and 2008 r 2 server in conjunction just fine , make sure you configure firewalls and home group/workgroup permissions appropriately to your network and it should be plain sailing . Sometimes my 8.1 likes to have a funny about uPnP but it's detecting wireless from the router that aren't even attached to my network . Sent my on a trip thinking someone was in my network but it's just windows being windows, disabling irradiates the problem .

Nothing really different from 7 to be honest.

I mean, your network is only as strong as your weakest part.

I'm not really a massive fan of Windows "sharing" to be honest. I'd much rather have a centralised source for sharing that I know I can protect and is one way in, one way out.
