Buying new Router - Wireless

Hello

I've read the Wireless sticky above, but it doesn't really answer some of my questions (or I haven't searched hard enough).

I have an old router from TalkTalk (I'm still on contract with them - terrible support but they are working on improving my line/connection so it's okay for now).
I play a lot online games, mainly CSGO. My profile is 9dB FastPath so my ping is quite decent with speed of 13mb/0.80mb. Soon to try 6dB. I'm also 300m away from my echange, and FTTC is not available at my area. Also TT don't provide AnnexM so I can't improve my upload speed (as I want to start streaming while at Home). Is there anything a Router can do to help me with that?

Anyways my Main question is. When I game, I will of course use an Ethernet cable, not Wireless. However our house is quite big, and there's my mum and my dad with their own Laptops, and my Sis with her iPad watching YouTube all day. This doesn't really effect my ingame ping that bad, maybe will go from 20-50 for a couple of sec/min. The Wireless signal does drop when we're upstairs, or in the conservatory (still works, but only on 1 bar).
I know these "Gaming" routers are a gimmick, and I don't want to spend above £60 on a router, when I will not be using Wireless to game.

So being a a bit of a techie, I still want to buy a router with a good Wireless connection, even tho I won't NEED it haha.
What attributes in a router can help so I don't lag when someone watches YouTube, fairly long and strong Wireless range, and in general what else should I be looking for in a router?

I've read, but don't quite understand the whole Dual-Band, 2.3GHz, 5GHz stuff? So if someone could explain that briefly and how it effects me, that would be great.

Regards, Nip

I just bought the n66u from asus. Essentially it operates 2 as a router for two wireless networks, one at 2.4g and the other at 5.0g. All of our wireless adapters / devices are a few years old so everything except my galaxy s3 connects to the 2.4g band.

Compared to my old router (some TP-link thing) it's been great so far. The tp-link was starting to regularly crash over wired and wireless. The stock firmware on the asus seems much more advanced too although I haven't had a chance to fully configure it yet.

It's a fair bit mroe than £60 though ;)

BUT. It is the n66u DARK KNIGHT router, which it says on it, which is kinda.. cool.. and stuff.
