I'm considering buying a game off a popular auction site, and I'm just wondering if others have done this and whether its worth doing. I don't want to be sold a fake (printed out label, burnt onto disc).

What do you guys think?

Feedback seems good, the image is a stock image of the cover. One thing that mentioned in his feedback is on some of the items he listed as "New" they were scratched. But this one he mentions is brand new and still in seal.

Well, it's most likely a legitimate item in the original case...but if it's not sealed and not new there's not much you can do.

It really comes down to what you expect to receive and how much you are actually saving by getting it from an auction. Like I said, if it looks legit enough I'd probably go for it, depending on how much I was saving.

Which game is it btw?

I make it a policy never to buy games from that place. How do you know that the keycode hasn't already been used, if it's an online game?

you're always taking a chance but I've bought almost all my games off that place and so far so good. (including online games with keycodes, quake 4 for example)

Decided to order from a etailer instead wasn't much more and I got pimped on the auction site (bidded in last 20 seconds and he bidded in last 5!!).

It was Colin McRae Dirt.

Ahh you have much sniping skills to learn!!

I wuld have outsniped him!!

I usual go with 2 or 3 secs to go

is buying online really that risky?

I have been considering buying hl2, supreme commander, and another i forget the name of but now worried after this.

Surely if the keycode doesn't work you can just get a refund through paypal as doesn't the buyer usually win for situations like this?

I've always bidded with around 20 seconds to go but since I have been owned in the last 10 secs I'm changing my tactics now, It was ok for those 56K days!!

I got mine for £17.98 del. cheapest I could find, looking forward to playing this one!

I won't buy any PC games from EBay.
As has been said there are chances codes have already been used.
There are also plenty of people who will advertise things as "New", "Sealed" etc when they have been bought in Hong Kong - so are still pirated.

I do buy games for the DS so long as they are coming on DS cartridges as I know they are a lot more difficult to fake up.

Id avoid anyone shipping from Thailand or who say delivery is 7-10 days. I ordered some old Vietcong a few years back and it was quite clearly a fake and the CD key had been used. Yet the guy ahd feedback of 2000+.

On the other hand there are plenty of smaller, legitimate & independent sellers who sell the real Mccoy. Being a LTD Company or VAT registered is a good indication
