Assuming it's a good brand and the previous owner hasn't had any problems is there any reason not to buy them second hand other than the reasons that apply to buying anything second hand? Are they particually prone to ageing problems or something?

no problems what so ever.

I have sold a psu on the members market, new owner is happy, and many other people have bought them from there too, without issues.

PSU capacitor aging might make the wattage lower with age, but a good quality one should not be so bad.

As its used over time, PSUs do age (i.e. capacitors, etc) therefore if its an unit that had major usage say for over more than 1.5-year then IMO avoid..

Also, try ask the seller for original receipt or invoice in case anything goes wrong & its still under warranty.

Depends somewhat how heavily they've been used. One which has been hammered for 8+ hours a day near it's maximum output will obviously have had it's lifetime reduced more than one lightly used, but yeah if you buy a decent brand and it's not too old you're probably fine.
