I am contemplating on whether i should configure my MBP with 4gb of ram and a 250gb HD, or buy it myself and do it, which is quite simple, but i dont know whether it will be worth the hassle and if i will save much money.

So, where can i buy MBP compatible RAM and HD?

I also read that you can sell the RAM it comes with for £40, does anyone know where to?

Thanks for your help

What gen MBP is it?

Previous owner of mine upgraded his with 4GB Corsair IIRC (details here) and a WD Scorpio Black 320gb drive, the latter I can't fault at all. Have used a couple of these and they're rapid and quiet - a seriously good pairing with the MBP.

It is the brand new MBP im getting the 13 inch version...and im also wondering if 2gb's extra would increase the performance enough to justify the extra money?

Don't get your upgrades from Apple, if I'm reading the spec right on the MBP page in the store they want £250 for an additional 2GB of RAM and 160gb of disk.

Shop about and you'll get the RAM for £33.00 for a 2GB module x 2 = £66~

OcUK sell the WD Scorpios for £52.99 with free delivery for forum members. :)

Oh i would get the £899 one and configure it with 4gbs of RAM (£69) and a 250gb HD (£34) so it would cost £105...the one you were looking at is the version with a faster CPU aswell

Ah right, gotcha.

Going back to your earlier question about the difference another 2GB would make, I couldn't contrast specifically but I can tell you that a mid-2008 MBP with 4GB and a Scorpio Black hauls behind. Firing up Photoshop takes a matter of seconds, and there isn't a lot it struggles with. So I'd definitely recommend the spec you're looking at. :)
