Buying Steam games second hand?

If I buy a copy of HL2 second hand (ie has been registered with another steam account) can I re-register it to my own steam account?

Just need a nice cheap copy of HL2 as I need it for my uni course

You cant do that, once its registered with one account you cant change it. The person in question could sell you the steam account, but tbh its only 20 quid for the DVD version online. Prolly even cheaper through steam.

Ok nm. Managed to find it for £20 (GOTY edition) So am buying new. Thanks for the help
