Hello all,

Sorry about yet another "check my spec" thread, but I'm about to shell out over a grand so I just want to make sure I've got everything I need and hopefully that everuything is compatible.

Case: Coolermaster Wavemaster Silver
PSU: Not sure yet! Suggestions?
Mobo: Asus P5W Deluxe
CPU: Conroe E6600 2.4 GHz
Memory: GSkill 2GB DDR2 6400 HZ
GPU: Connect 3D ATi Radeon x1900XTX
Hard drives: 2 * 250GB Seagate 7200.10 SATA2
Monitor: Dell 2007 WFP 20" Widescreen
Heat sink: Scythe Ninja or Arctic Freezer 7 Pro? Suggestions?

Other things to note... I will be overclocking. Also, I've got a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 oem card already, and am not sure whether this is better than the onboard sound. Does anyone know? Also, how good is the wireless on the Asus board? Is is b/g or what standard? I'll take any other suggestions, but bear in mind I don't want my budget to change too much from what it is, which is roughly £1,200 or so. I might get a keyboard and new mouse if I feel like a change from current one. Any thoughts or if you notice I've missed something out would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks a million.

Get the P5B Deluxe, it clocks way better than the P5W. I'd also just get a normal X1900XT, rather than the XT-X, no point in paying over £100 more for little difference. I've got a Tagan Easycon 530W in my Allendale system and I love it, great PSU.

Use the Audigy.
Tagan seem to be the PSU manufacturer of choice at the moment, although i have a Hiper in my rig.
Artic Freezer are very good coolers from all reports on here.

Yep, got an Arctic Freezer 7 pro in my system, the fan doesn't give anywhere near as many rpm the intel stock fan does, yet seems to do a much better job of cooling too.

If you can afford it get the Ninja. The AC Freezer 7 Pro is out of stock on OcUK at the moment anyway :p

I agree with the GFX too. An X1900XTX isn't worth the extra money. I spent just 5 minutes making my X1900XT faster than an XTX :D

Looks like a great set up because its very similar to mine :p. For the PSU people recommend the Enermax, Seasonic, FSP or Tagan. I've got an Enermax Liberty 500W myself but you could get any of those.

I'd get the Scythe Ninja over the Freezer 7 Pro purely because the Ninja is one of the best air coolers around at the moment. The Thermaltake Big Typhoon is good too (I had really low idle/load temps with the E6600 @ stock).

Oh and the wireless... it is pure garbage for me!. Frequent lagging when I play PES 5 online, it is so annoying that I'm going to get a USB or PCi wireless card. It is ok for downloading and surfing but definitely not for gaming!

Hope that helps ;)

Bah! Just drill a nice hole in the ceiling and you'll be fine. Wireless sucks for online gaming in my experience. Wired all the way :D

Mmm its fine on my brother's laptop and my other pc with a USB dongle, really smooth and no lag problems. Only good thing about the Asus wireless is that it looks nice on the table :p

I always have trouble with Battlefield 2 and wireless connections! Wires are the way forward :D I had a wireless mouse once and it was a nightmare!

sorry to hear of your experiences with wireless, i have to say though i set a wireless rig up in my house with 2 desktop pc's and laptop through with btyahoo 8meg BB and in 2years i haven't had a minute's down time :S i very rarely lag in online games even when downloading several 300meg files!

It might have been an issue with my router or PC itself. Doesn't help that there are about 6 or 7 wireless networks all within range of my house - a lot of them have high signal strength too. None unsecured yet tho :(

However once I wired up to the router I never looked back. Just finished connecting my bros new PC up. Took two holes, 20m of cable and some rummaging around in the attic looking for said holes :D

Back on topic:

I would suggest that you go for the

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) (MY-058-GL)

Has the same timings, and the overclocks look good with it, plus its cheaper!
