When you buy to let, how are payments of bills handled?

For example, would you have a phone line already active and you pay for it while you have no tennants, and then transfer it to their name when they move in (and the same with other essentials such as gas, electric etc).

Or????

Just been pondering and i've got no idea about how it's done.

you can let on either basis. either the tenants can pay more and all bills are included or they pay less and pay their own bills

re phone lines have it wired but don't set it up when they move in get BT to activate the line (the tenant pays for this)

re gas no use = none / negligable bills just make sure you get your own meter readings not estimated ones, same with water.
