Buying today....£500 wow build

Thanks stulid & beej

I know about the code :D Hence the choices.. ;)

@ Stulid I brought the 6850 off MM for £85 inc delivery. Also got the RAM last week for £18.
I reckon the M4 SSD will be on this week only next week (they usually have on one week and off the other)

Will this build play WOW on max settings at res?
If not will an i5?

Badass! All done and ordered. Ill collect that on Thursday :D

Upgrade route?

first thing would be i3->i5.
then 6850 -> whatever the budget allows.

Would an ivy bridge fit into that mobo later on.

You do realise the 6850 is technically a down grade from the 5870 don't you?

I would return the mobo and change it for ....

you could sell the 5870 on the MM and then look to grab another 6850 later cheap and Xfire

Cheers honosuseri.

Ive ordered everything now. But its a build for my friend not me. (i probably should have mentioned this.)

His going from a Intel P4 2.8GHz with a 7800GT. (averaging 5-15fps in wow lowest settings)

He is was on a budget of £500 and ended up spending £600. But why would you suggest that board over the other. Do you think its worth the £23 upgrade.

Main difference between the motherboards is the support for SLI/Xfire. If your friend isn't likely to get a dual GPU setup then stick with what you have. That Gigabyte board is very good for the money.

It's purely to run dual gfx cards, either Nvidia or ATI.

He got the 6850 pretty cheap, that gives you an idea of the performance if he added another one (hopefully cheaper than he bought the first). That 560ti is probably a similar price to what he would pay for the two 6850s.

Paying just that lil more now will give him better GPU upgrade options later basically. It's his call :)
