Hey guys, I had an old Asus Rampage II Extreme with 6GB of Memory in it and 3 empty slots, I'd really like to bump it up as it struggles a little in photoshop at times.

However it's so difficult to find some nice tri channel memory for a good price, let alone matching it to my 3x2GB OCZ Reapers 1600s. I was wondering whether you guys knew whether dual channel ram would be an option for my old mobo? If so would I be able to use it in conjunction with my tri channel or should i take that out?

Thanks guys :)

Just buy 3 of the same DDR3 Single-Channel packs.

Personally I'd sell your current 6Gb, probably go for more than it's worth cause it's a "tri" Channel pack. And get 3 x 4GB Single-Channel packs. :P

Though you should be able to run 3 x 2GB and 3 x 4GB for 18GB if you wanted. :) (I'm 90% certain this should work ^^)

Edit: Also check you version of windows can run 18 GB of ram if you go for this option. :)

I'd double check the timings of your existing ram first too, some reapers were low cas psc (6-8-6 / 7-9-7) and you'll pay a pretty penny to snatch some of those ;)

Set i had were cas 7-7-7-24 but there indeed were other versions.

I had the same motherboard and the same issue, I ended up with 8GB in dual channel. Which does work. :)

I bought some up a while back before it disappeared, taking my 6GB up to 12GB. Honestly, it hasn't made much difference. If I was you I'd start saving for a bundle and enjoy a new CPU too.
