Never bought a car from a dealership before, so was just wondering how low you normally offer for a car?

e.g. screen price is £3999, is offering £3700 likely to work? Car is an MR2 turbo btw.

I've noticed that this particular car has been at the dealership for quite a few months now.

Be cheeky offer 3400/3500, they can only choke on their doughnuts. Go with a list of stuff in your head to bargain for. New Mats, Valet, Longer Tax, Tank of petrol etc.

First offer no matter how low will always dictate the final price, start with a low offer, if you start the dealer off at £3800 he will not accept this and say umm not much profit in this car and all that junk you will prolly get £100 off max, if you start off at £3200 your more likely to get the car for 3600 for example.

Is it a T-bar? If so the dealer probably knows that any time now the prices will rise again as the weather gets better.

i always start at a price i know they will refuse.
my BM was up for £4600, i offered £4k to which the bloke refused.
Paid £4100 for it after some bartering and got 12 months tax aswell.

just bought my new car - '03 Celica 1.8 VVTL-i TSport. Screen price was 15k, i offered 13. Eventually got it for 13 750, but with 6 months tax, new mats, valet and tank of fuel. Its not like you're ripping anyone off - if they dont like the offer, then no harms done - they wont sell it for less than it owes them.
