So i just tried to pre-order the orange box on steam and I cant seem to use a debit card? I have no intention of ever getting a credit card ever as theyre evil! Does this mean im screwed?

If i buy it from an online store can i add TOB to my existing steam account?

Mike

Afaik if you buy a steam game in a shop you can input the serial/code into steam and you can even download it from there. I think. lol

Works fine with maestro for me - is it one they support?

Do you have a paypal account? you can pay by paypal now.

If you buy it in an online store you probably won't get to play the TF2 beta early

or get a credit card and only use it as a debit card. buy something you could buy on your debit card, go home , and online pay the same amount to credit card then you'd never ever get charged a penny for interest. even if you forget you'll get the bill and have 2 weeks after that before any charges for if you forget to do it immediately.

credit cards give you massively more cover for fraud and other usage, insurance on basically everything you buy. if you buy say a £20 or a 500 item from a shop, and it goes bust before it gets to you, or the company uses details fraudulently or whatever and you're covered with credit cards, and not with debit card(in most cases).

its very silly to hate credit cards, as long as you use them in a sane manor they are much better. in general most debit accounts can go overdrawn, and almost all charges for going overdrawn on a debit transaction are larger than interest payments, and even late payment fee's.

^ And if he can't get a credit card, for example for me it's impossible to get a cc because I'm just 16, just a maestro for me no mastercard/visa.

I used my visa debit card, which is not a credit card as it takes the money straight from my bank account & its also my bank card used for withdrawls.

Zogger - im trying to use a Natwest maestro card - what would this come under? Everything on steam seems to imply credit card!

Actualy i have the same conversastion with flatmates who suggested credit cards much more secure for online purchases. Just applied for a barclay card as they seem to be decent! - anyone had and good/bad experiences with particular brands of credit card?

Can you not just borrow your flatmates cc?

Credit Cards get a bad rep because of muppets not understanding how they work and misusing them. Aslong as you stay aware of how much you have on them and it's paid off in time then you have nothing to worry about. You also get covered on all purchases you make through your credit card so they are worth having for expensive purchases.

Very stupid and sweeping statement there.

They'd just find another way of getting themselves in debt.
