Buying/using old(new)tyres

I'm sure I read somewhere that tyres over a certain shelf life cannot be sold as new, I seem to recall it's about 7 years old and sure there's been conversation here about I before, does anyone have any info?

They should not be used or replaced at 6 years old if they have been stored from new, replace at 10 years if in use - however unlikely!!
