Once my MX5 goes, I'll be looking at 4 door saloons. My normal default place to check is Autotrader. Today, and for the first time I had a scan on Pistonheads. Have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the options.

Any got any experience of dealing with sellers on there? My instinct tells me that the ads will be from people who are fairly savvy (therefore probably not Chavs) and enthusiasts, though I guess that also makes it a perfect cover to sell rubbish.

Thoughts?

Depends on the car you're looking for obviously but most people on Pistonheads are enthusiasts so you should get a car that's well looked after IMO.

I got my Elise from there if that helps.

Just treat anyone on there like you would a private seller on Autotrader. ie. don't trust a single word they say, double check all paperwork, if your not massively mechanically minded take someone who is and if it feels at all wrong for any reason walk away. Other than the normal precautions it is a very good source for finding stuff imo.

I sold my old car (pug 306) via pistonheads. Much easier than autotrader, even for buying. Just make sure you check all the usual stuff like MOT's, mileage, service history, vin's etc..

Out of interest, what MX5 is it, I've been scouring Pistonheads for a nice UK 1.8 IS for under £4k

I put my VX220 up on there at 9pm Sunday, 9:30am Monday and it was sold.

People tend to go there knowing what to look for, rather than timewasters on autotrader.

As always....
Buyer Beware.
